TOMS Donates 296,243 Pairs of Shoes To Children in Need as a Result of One Day Without Shoes Campaign!

From May 5 to May 21 TOMS led its One Day Without Shoes campaign. For every photo of bare feet posted on Instagram with the hashtag #withoutshoes, the company pledged to give a new pair of shoes to a child in need.

The campaign, which concluded this past Thursday, May 21, resulted in 296,243 children receiving a brand new pair of shoes. 

Celebrities such as Charlize Theron and Jeff Bridges joined the cause, adding to the viral campaign's popularity.

TOMS Launches Viral Instagram Campaign for a Great Cause

This week TOMS launched their One Day Without Shoes campaign with the purpose of honoring their customers' commitment to raising awareness for children's health and education. 

From May 5 to May 21, for every photo of bare feet posted on Instagram with the hashtag #withoutshoes, the company will actually give a new pair of shoes to a child in need. People are being encouraged to tag their friends and challenge them to do the same thing and on May 21, TOMS will announce the total number of shoes people have helped raise.

Jamison Monroe Discusses Drugs Over Dinner Project on Huffpost Live

GUILD speaker Jamison Monroe made a guest appearance on Huffpost Live to address addiction in the United States and to discuss his Drugs Over Dinner project, which aims to create change through "compassionate conversation about drugs and addiction."

Twenty-three million Americans aged 12 or older need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse but only 11 percent receive it. Drugs Over Dinner aims to erradicate the stigma behind talking about drugs in order to motivate people to seek treatment when affected by drugs and alcohol. 


Pencils of Promise Names Michael Dougherty as CEO

This Monday April, 27, Pencils of Promise announced that Michael Dougherty, of The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), will be the organization's Chief Executive Officer as of June 1, 2015.

Adam Braun, who established Pencils of Promise in 2008, will continue to serve as Founder and to advocate for Pencils of Promise's mission to new audiences, in addition to continuing his role as Director of the Global Education Platform, an initiative established by the UN Special Envoy for Global Education.

This week, GUILD speaker and New York Times best-selling author, Steven Kotler, released the trailer for his new book Tomorrowland: Our Journey from Science Fiction to Science Fact, now available for pre-order.
